From the front DJ flap "The battle of Bentonville, the only major Civil War battle fought in North Carolina, was the Confederacy's last desperate attempt to stop the devastating march of Wiliam Tecumseh Sherman's army north through the Carolinas. Fought on March 19-21, 1865, it was a bloody battle, with a total of 3,600 men killed or wounded."
