[Germany, 1783]. Laid paper. Platemark trimmed with margins comparable to the example at the Library of Congress: 5⅛ x 3 inches. Old mounting traces to verso.
Engraving by Daniel Berger (1744-1824) and adapted from a line engraving by an unknown artist; signed "D. Berger Sculp. 1783." Oval medallion with a ring and ribbon showing a bust and head in profile of Benjamin Franklin (here spelled "Benyamin") facing left. This portrait of Franklin was first used for the frontispiece of Franklin's Political, Miscellaneous and Philosophical Pieces (L. 1779).
