About This Item

(Oxford): (Oxford University Press), 2014. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/near fine. First printing of the OUP publication, four volumes (complete), large octavo size, total of approximately 2000 pp. One could spend a lifetime studying the life and work of Bernard Bolzano (1781-1848). An ordained Catholic priest as well as a scholar, philosopher and mathematician, he has been referred to as "the greatest logician who lived in the long stretch of time between Leibniz and Frege" (n.b., from the web site of the Stanford University Encyclopedia of Philosophy).

These four volumes published by the Oxford University Press in 2014, now somewhat scarce. The set presents his work in logic, which "marks a new beginning in the history of the discipline..." (n.b., from dust jacket flap).

___DESCRIPTION: All volumes bound in full black cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the spines; large octavo size (9 3/8" by 6 1/4"), pagination: Volume One, [i-x] xi-liii [1, blank] [2, printed replication of the 1837 title page with German quote on verso] 1-456; Volume Two, [i-vi] vii-liv [2, printed replication of the 1837 title page with Greek quote on verso] 1-453; Volume Three, [i-vi] vii-xxxviii [2, printed replication of the 1837 title page with Latin quote on verso] 1-417; and Volume Four, [i-vi] vii-xxxvi [2, printed replication of the 1837 title page with German quote on verso] 1-525.

___CONDITION: All four volumes near fine, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors are clean and bright, and the set is entirely free of prior owner markings; some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines, else fine. All four dust jackets near fine, clean, unclipped (without a printed price, as is the custom for the OUP), with the most minor of edgewear.

___POSTAGE: Please note that due to weight additional postage will apply; please inquire for details.
