A Modern Library reprint edition presenting a collection of 17 of the author's best short stories. W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) was a prolific playwright, novelist and short story writer. Stories selected, and with an introduction by John Beecroft. --- In Toledano spine 10 / rust cloth / ML hex logo blindstamped to front cover / gilt-stamped spine titling & torchbearer / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style i, verso lists ML titles, but no total number. Likely published c.1963 (though 1957 date appears in book). ML #14.2. --- An about-Near Fine copy: clean, tightly-bound and bright, but with tiny specks of soiling to textblock fore-edge. Unclipped ($2.45) dust jacket with sticker removal traces to front panel, small tears to extremities, otherwise bright and protected in removable archival mylar wrapper.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); xi, 489, (9, ads) pages .
