"This is the second volume of a book which seeks to tell something of the contribution made to modern South Africa by English-speaking men and women, particularly in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. ... The field has now been extended to the law, the Press, university education, finance - industry - mining, architecture and the Church. Once again the authors include experts in their own fields and they write short profiles of their subjects to tell the story." .
