About This Item
(Cape Town: Struik, 1996) 1868259153. 4to; original burgundy boards; laminated pictorial dustwrapper; pp. 128, incl. index and bibliography; lavishly illustrated with photographs and artwork, much of which in full colour. Dustwrapper very slightly edgeworn, and sunned on spine panel; trace of fishmothing to bottom edges of boards. Very good condition. "Southern Africa is a land of the strange, the mysterious and the unexplained - there are enigmatic tales of gold in ancient ruins, ghostly sightings, curious artefacts from the distant past, evidence of life that defies history and, of course, unsolved murders. Beyond Belief is a vivid collection of some of these fascinating stories. The authors have researched their subjects, sharing facts with us, but leaving us to ponder tales of the unexplained, the contradictory and the unsolved. Many attempts have been made to lay legend to rest, to resolve persistent rumours, and to provide us with facts instead of fantasy, but most have failed. Whether we choose to believe the evidence presented or not, we are left with a stimulating collection of murders and mysteries that will stir controversy and speculation." .
