About This Item

New York: The Seabury Press, 1983. Very rare signed copy Inscribed and signed by author on half-title page. 8vo size trade paperback with photo illustrated covers; 170 pages. From back: "Former Congressman Robert Drinan sees the nuclear freeze movement as a cry of desperation from the American people that must be heeded by policymakers. The massive concern expressed through this movement, however, still needs to be focused more clearly toward realistic policy goals...Father Drinan relates the tragic, thirty-seven year story of the nuclear age, beginning with Hiroshima and ending with the dreadful impasse in arms control brought about by the Reagan Administration..." Robert Drinan, S.J. (1920-2007) was a Catholic priest, United States Congressman and law professor. He was the first Roman Catholic priest to serve in Congress in 1971 and went on to be re-elected several times. He was the first member of Congress to call for the impeachment in 1973 of United States President Richard M. Nixon. After Pope John Paul II demanded that priests not take part in electoral politics, Drinan did not seek re-election and left Congress in 1981 to become a law professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Some spots of light soil to all outside pages, curl to cover, edgewear and wear to corners. Quotes are for illustrative purposes only and remain the property of their copyright holders.
