About This Item

Green ninetenth century cloth, gilt cover device and spine-titles, edges untrimmed, large paper issue, 26x 16 cm,. vi, 273 pp. 2,415 lots. Sabin wrote of this catalogue: " It is one of the most carefully prepared auction catalogues ever issued.". The sale catalogue had been abridged (as to the titles, though not the collations) from Stevens' "Historical nuggets", although that work was not published until 1862.. The auction had originally been announced to be held on "January 23, 1861, and three following days". but the sale was postponed to March. The present (large paper) issue contains a leaf with "Arrangement of sale". Tears (not too obtrusive) along top 5 cms of joints, and a little worn at head of spine, cornertips rubbed, untrimmed edges of textblock a little darkened and with creasing and some tearing of edges (very occasionally extending beyond the area that would be trimmed, and then only to a minor degree), otherwise a near Very Good clean copy.
