De Rerum Natura, in French 'De la Nature des Choses', is a didactic poem intended to explain Epicurean philosophy to a Roman audience. Written in the first century BC by philosopher Lucretius, it examines the nature of the mind and soul, sensation, atomism, world development and celestial phenomena.Published by C. L. F. Panckoucke, the Bibliotheque latine-francaise consisted of over two hundred volumes published from 1826 until 1848. These were costly French translation of classic texts by ancient Roman writers. This is the twenty-second and twenty-third volume.A French translation by de Pongerville.Complete in two volumes.A smart early nineteenth century French translation of this important Epicurean work. In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart; some slight rubbing to the leather at the extremities as well as at the head and tail of the spine. With loss to the head and tail of spine. Small split to the head of the rear joint. Internally, generally firmly bound, with strain to the hinges which all remain firm. Pages are a little spotted in places. Good
