Sotheby's, Monaco, auction catalogue for the sale held on 28th February and 1st March, 1987. Cloth, 4to,. 515 pp, numerous colour and black-and-white plates. 598 lots. In French. The first part of the sale, devoted to works on all forms of hunting. From the introduction: "Jeanson, bien sûr, ne manqua pas d'acquérir nombre de chefs d'oeuvre aux ventes Rahir (1938) et Schwerdt (1939) qui demeurèrent ainsi absents du marché pendant les cinquantes dernières années. Parcourrons cette bifoho-dièque et feuilletons certains de ses trésors: ce sont six des sept manuscrits enluminés de Gaston Phébus aujourd'hui en mains privées, ainsi que les deux premières éditions imprimées (circa 1507). Ce sont les trois premières éditions du Roy Modus d'Henri de Ferrière (1486) et un des deux seuls manuscrits demeurant en collection privée. De Guillaume Crétin, voici les premières éditions de ses poèmes de chasse, Chante Royaulx (1527 et circa 1529) et Le débat des deux dames (1526) ainsi que l'ensemble exceptionnel d'enluminures de chasse, extraits d'un manuscrit de ce second texte. Voici encore la première édition de La Vénerie de Du Fouilloux ainsi que treize éditions ultérieures. Voilà les traités les plus rares de fauconnerie, d'archerie, de louveterie; introuvables pour la plupart, certains sont même uniques: l'édition Wynleyn de Worde du Book of St Albans (1518), ou l'édition d'Augsbourg de 1497 d'un traité de fauconnerie. Voilà encore de splendides exemplaires d'ouvrages de vénerie du 17e au 19e don't nombre sont reliés en maroquin rouge, brun ou vert et tous en merveilleux état. Voilà des ouvrages reliés aux armes des plus grandes familles, voire aux armes royales; voilà même deux carnets de chasse de la main de Louis XVI couvrant tous les deux l'année cruciale 1789.Voilà encore de fabuleuses images de chasse; des miniatures milanaises de 1400, des dessins de Stradanus, des gravures de Victor Adam, d'autres des frères Vernet. . ., et voilà encore . . ., et encore . . . Very Good.
