About This Item

New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons: The Knickerbocker Press, 1899. SIGNED by Theodore Roosevelt directly beneath his frontispiece portrait (his signature only, NOT personalized to anyone). SEE PHOTOS. In the portrait, which is tissue-guarded, Roosevelt is wearing his Rough Rider uniform. In another portrait, he is shown in this "Hunting Costume" -- so stated on its red-printed tissue guard. Very Good condition. Strong hinges. NO cracks. Square and tight -- unusual for this very heavy book (almost 7 pounds). The cover is lightly soiled with mild rubbing and fraying at the extremities. Endpapers professionally renewed with 100% rag paper. SEE PHOTOS. NO owner's name or bookplate. Pages are clean and unmarked. Top edge gilt. Deckled fore and bottom edges. Bound in the original tan cloth, gilt-stamped over black panels on the spine and front cover, with the image of a bear stamped in dark green [NOT black] on the rear cover. All gilt stamping is still bright and shiny. SEE PHOTOS. With 55 illustrations by Remington, Frost, Beard, and "other well known artists" -- all with red printed captions on their tissue-guards. 1899. First Edition. Limited to 1000 numbered copies, this being #894. From Roosevelt's Foreword: " My object in writing these books was not only to give a full account of the chase of every kind of big game proper to the United States, but also where possible to touch on their life histories… I write for my fellow ranchmen and fellow hunters, and for the young men of America, in whose veins the red blood of life runs lustily, and who joy in the strenuous pleasure that comes only as the prize of toil and exposure in the open." Oversize Hardcover. 8.5" wide by 11.5" tall by 2.5" thick. This large, very heavy book will require extra postage for International shipments, but only the standard charge for priority mail.. SIGNED by Theodore Roosevelt. First Edition, Limited to 1000 copies. Oversize Hardcover. Very Good condition. Illus. by Remington, Frederick; & A. B. Frost; J. Carter Beard; et al. xxxiii, 323pp. + x, 476pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
