New York: Harper & Brothers, 1845. First American edition. Hardcover. g- to g. Quarto (9 1/2 x 6"). [10], 638pp. Partly uncut. Original 3/4 crushed morocco over marbled paper covered boards, with gold lettering to spine. Raised bands. Marbled endpapers. Tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece portrait of the author.
This volume is a collection of articles that William H. Prescott had published in the "North American Review," and now published for the first time in book form.
Binding partly rubbed along edges, with sporadic abrasion to paper and leather. First and last leaves with moderate to heavy foxing. Clear water-stain at upper margin of pages 40 to 145, and from pp. 273 to 320 (not affecting lettering). Binding and interior in overall good- to good.
