About This Item
Chicago Illinois: George Fisher & Co., 1876. Early days in Kendall County, IL, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this new 52-page 8 1/2" x 11" spiral-bound booklet. The booklet, an excerpt from the hard-to-find 1876 book: Biographical Directory of the Voters and Tax-Payers of Kendall County, Illinois, originally published by George Fisher & Co., Chicago. The booklet is printed on 60# opaque paper. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the front cover. However, this is more than just a list of names. Included are: Indian troubles -- tales of escape, massacre, compassion and captivity; a list of pioneers, where they came from and where they settled; Organization of the county; Geological features; Members of the Judiciary and County Officers; Statistics; Boards of Trustees for 1876; Township Officers in 1876; Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows officers in 1876; and a directory of businesses. Cities and incorporated villages currently listed for this area by the National Association of Counties, , include: Yorkville (county seat), Plano, Lisbon, Millbrook, Millington, Montgomery, Newark and Oswego. The book mentions Bristol, but does not mention Montgomery. Bristol is listed as a township by NACo. Attention Genealogists: The bulk of the booklet is a extensive alphabetical directory of residents by township. Most listings are only one to three lines long.
