The BIOLOGICAL BULLETIN was established in 1897 as the Zoological Bulletin by Charles Otis Whitman and William Morton Wheeler. In 1899 the title was changed to The Biological Bulletin, and production was transferred to the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Offered here are the complete first 2 volumes of the journal that celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2022. Importantly, the Bulletin, from the beginning, has spanned the general interest of biology, with a preference for hypothesis-driven research centered on organismal questions. The Biological Bulletin has an exceedingly long journal half-life statistic (the median age of a journal's articles that were cited in the current year) of 27.8 years as of 2021 data.
