About This Item

London: Guerney and Jackson, 1907. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6.5". Horace Cox; Charles Whypmer; Abel Chapman. An ornithological study of the Anglo-Scottish border, with twenty seven plates and a folding colour map Abel Chapman draws on notes taken over a period of forty years in this ornithological study of the Anglo-Scottish border. With twenty seven plates and nineteen in-text illustrations, collated and complete. For the second edition of this work, Chapman has re-written much of the first half on Cheviots and the moorlands of the border, whilst the his treatment of the north-eastern seaboard remains similar to the first edition. The Sunderland-born naturalist and hunter contributed towards saving the Spanish Ibex from extinction, and helped establish the first game reserve in South Africa. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. A little rubbed to the boards and the spine. Very lightly bumped to the head of the spine, a little more so to the tail, with some minor wear to the extremities. Front hinge starting but firm. The frontispiece is disbound but present. Some offsetting to front and rear endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound, with bright and clean pages. Very Good
