Hardcover. 3rd Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. bound in blue polished decorated calf, gilt spine ,gilt edges, red leather spine title ,marbled edges, marbled end papers, port. frontis., title page vignette, xiv, 498 pages .a beautiful binding with very minor marks to binding. A school prize with bookplate inside front cover from S Augustine's College, Canterbury. A prize in Missionary History awarded to A.J. Oakley...bookplate is signed by R.J.E. Boggis, acting warden.some foxing to the prelims and the title page. Some underlining in ink througout text.George Augustus Selwyn (1809 -1878) was the first Anglican Bishop of New Zealand. He was Bishop of New Zealand (which included Melanesia) from 1841 to 1869. His diocese was then subdivided and Selwyn was Metropolitan (later called Primate) of New Zealand from 1858 to 1868. Returning to Britain, Selwyn served as Bishop of Lichfield from 1868 to 1878. .
