Earlier owner's name, with date "July 1938" signed on front free endpaper; occasional fox spot. Good to very good condition. 'The author, a distinguished psychoanalyst at present practising in Johannesburg, was for purposes of research anxious to find a native who would be willing to become the object of a deep and protracted psycho-analytical study. In "John," the chief character of this book, he at last found such a person. ... In Black Hamlet perhaps for the first time, the soul of the negro is laid bare.' .
