Author's First Book which launched an amazing career, this copy Signed by Hillerman, it also includes an original Signed drawing by Native American artist Ernest Franklin which depicts a Navajo shaman/healer/singer creating a sand painting during a healing or curing ceremony for a fellow Indian, very scarce thus, according to text on the dust jacket, Hillerman went to school for his first eight grades as a day student at St. Mary's Academy, a boarding school for Indian girls, thereby, he says, learning how it felt to be a minority problem by being one, Hieb bibliography A1b, this may be the only British edition so illustrated by Franklin. Fine.

Synopsis
