With frontispiece by Stothard and 24 further plates/charts. (The plate list is presumably in Vol I so I can not confirm that the plates are present as listed. The work had 51 plates/maps over the 2 volumes). Detailed account of the voyage with Tables showing the course of La Boussole and L'Astrolabe. Separate section at the rear 'Substance of the Travels over the Continent, with the dispatches of La Perouse, in the Years 1787 and 1788 by M de Lesseps'. Page listing of Stockdale's poetry works at the rear. In contemporary full leather binding which is badly damaged. The boards with gilt edging and cross hatched blind tooling are complete and rescuable but the spine is missing. Page edges marbled. Tan paper wraps, printed in black. Circular blind stamp of Bibliotheque de Deep sea salvage on the title page. Front cover has 'Editor of the Herald' written in ink across the top. Edges rubbed and bumped with some loss to the bottom of the spine. Corners creased and chipped a little but overall a very good example of this scarce Civil War time publication. Only one copy located on Worldcat, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
