Hawthorn, 1968. Second Edition. Pictorial Boards. Near Fine in Archival Plastic. A lovely copy of the second edition later printing of this Gorey book. With header title: "der Traurige Zwolfpfunder"(sic). [Toledano, A27b.] Originaly published in 1968 by Meredith publishers, the date of this publication is unknown. Measures 6 1/4" high x 7 1/4" wide. With bright blue on black covers, the book is in fine condition but for light touches of wear on the black covers. A nice copy.
Synopsis
Edward Gorey's dark sense of humor brings us opera understudy, Ortenzia Caviglia, and her lucky break is the mysterious murder of the reigning diva. Now that she is in the spotlight, she earns an admirer, Mr. Jasper Ankle, who braves dangerous weather and suffers poverty in his quest to hear her perform. As Ortenzia's star rises, Jasper falls into despair, until the desperate collision of performer and fan in true Edward Gorey fashion.
