Another book both written & illustrated by this Newbery Medal-winning author and illustrator, this one featuring "two of the most loveable heroines who have ever lived in a story,'' Becky & Fanny Griswold, daughters of a parson in 1840's Connecticut. A FIRST EDITION, Fourth Printing, from 1940, this hardcover octavo has light blue cloth over boards stamped with a gilt floral design & lettering to front cover & spine, in 209 pages with decorative endpapers & drawings throughout the text.. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages lightly tanned, especially around edges, but completely unmarked save for former owner's bookplate in front matter & gift inscription in pen to half-title page. Modest rubbing all around, corners lightly bumped. The bottom price-clipped DJ is just Good, with chipping at corners & both ends of spine, moderate-heavy rubbing to extremities; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free!
