About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1969. This mammoth volume is a new printing from 1969 (the book was first released in 1963). It is in Fine condition with a Near-Fine dust jacket. (Click on photo.) This definitive book on the Old West was written by numerous writers, each a specialist in his field. These include Dale Morgan, Oscar Osburn Winther, Oscar Lewis, Don Russell, Wayne Gard, Ramon F. Adams, Robert Easton, Natt N. Dodge, B.A. Botkin, and Clarence P. Hornung. This handsome volume is clean and bright and tightly bound, with no marks or inscriptions from former owners. I doubt it was ever read. It includes numerous illustrations by famous artists of the period: There's a Gallery of Western Art in the rear, in color and black-and-white, showing paintings by George Bird King, Carl Bodmer, George Catlin, John Mix Stanley, Alfred Jacob Miller, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, and more. The dust jacket is in excellent condition, with only minimal shelf rubbing in the spine area, and a tiny tear at the spine bottom. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleeve. The book measures 8 7/8 inches by 11 1/8 inches and includes 607 pages. With packaging, the book is in the seven-pound weight range, so domestic Media Mail shipping will be adjusted to total $6.50. International buyers should email me regarding shipping costs.. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. Illus. by Remington, Russell, Catlin, Borein, Bodmer, Bierstadt, et al. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
