Portland, Maine:: Rebecca Goodale,, 2002.. Edition of 10. 11 x 16.5" with three section compound binding. Hand colored silk-screen prints with collage. This book's pages are composed of portraits of the fifteen birds listed by the state of Maine as Threatened or Endangered.

London: Longman & Co, 1848. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. 8vo. iv,(1),31,(2)pp. Thirty-two pages are chromolithographed by Humphreys, in addition there is a leaf of the illuminator' s remarks and one comprising an index of the miracles. Bound in the original black papier-mache covers designed to look like carved ebony. The binding was based on one carved in ivory in the 12th Century and has medallions of the principal miracles intertwined with ornate decorations and the title. The front and rear covers are identical. The book is exuberantly illustrated using chromolithography on 32 pages alternating between hot bright colors and cool pages subtly tinted with various shades, the whole combining to make both a magnificent tribute to Medieval illustration and to the then new and novel technique of chromolithography. Marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Nicely rebacked in plain black leather;; a few small cracks in the binding, edges and corners neatly mended, but a very good copy. The Art of… Read More

Lanston Monotype Corp. Ltd. London 1928. FIRST EDITION. 4to. ( 11.5 x 8.9 inches). Illustrated with mono printed examples of ornamental borders and panels on both sets of endpapers and from pages 5 to 67. These are followed by 19 pages of various coloured paper which have been printed with colour pattern. A beautiful book in fine condition in the publishers red cloth with gilt lettering and decorations to the spine and front board. In an early, possibly original, plain glassine wrapper which is a bit torn and creased but has done its job of protecting the book.

Signed by Stone in black ink on the title page. Also there are 8 pieces of his printed work, one inscribed by Stone on the back, loosely inserted; Prospectus for The Old rectory suite of engravings, Bookplate for David Potter, vignette view with 'keepsake from Reynolds Stone' motif below, Waterfall view on single sheet, Bookplate for Iain Bain, Prospectus for Boxwood suite of engravings, Artist in the woods illustration on single sheet, and A child in the woods illustration printed onto card and inscribed by Stone on the rear 'Dear Norah.
