University of Oxford: Printed by John Baskett, Printer to the King's Most Excellent Majesty., 1716. Hardcover. 8vo, no pagination, engraved portrait of King George (by J Stuart) and printer's title page facing, also with an engraved title page stating thus: "The Liturgy of the Church of England Adorned with Fifty five New Historical Cuts. London, Sold by John Sturt in Golden Lion Court in Aldersgate Street, And J. Nutt in ye Savoy." with 52 engravings of the stated 55, and with an additional engraved portrait of King David at the beginning of "The Psalter or Psalms of David". D6 is defective on fore edge affecting text, D8 torn on fore edge margin just affecting text, H4 has a tear of 2 inches, and there is a corner torn on plate 48 but well away from printed area. The additions: "A Companion to the Alter" consists of pages 3 (title page) to 74 (Finis), pp 71 - 74 are defective at foot of page). "The Whole Book of Psalms" consists of 9 gatherings of, no pagination. Binding: contemporary full calf, decorated tooled floral device in cntre with similar decorated borders, originally gild but faded with wear. Rabcked with a new back strip and label with title gilt and gilt rules, binding is nicely tight and the whole robust. cropped close on top margin original marbled endpapers
