A profusely illustrated work on the history of the River Thames, written by husband and wife Samuel Carter Hall and Anna Maria Hall. A new edition. The Book of the Thames is a comprehensive and engaging history of the river Thames. The river has been an important fixture throughout history, being an economic resource, a maritime route, a boundary, a fresh water source, and a source of food. Illustrated with numerous in-text engravings throughout.Written by husband and wife Samuel Carter Hall and Anna Maria Hall. Samuel was a journalist who was best known for editing 'The Art Journal' and for his much-satirised personality. Anna was a novelist who was best known for her works on Irish life. Undated, dated from JISC from copies held at the Guildhall Library, City of London. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, sound, with some light shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Fading to the spine. A few patches of fading to the rear board. Internally, binding is firm. A few spots to the pages, which are otherwise bright and clean. Very Good
