About This Item
A New Directions Book, 1952 8vo (22 cm), 323 pp, 4 illustrations. Publisher's cloth and dust jacket (dj torn at the head of the spine with small part missing, corners slightly scuffed). First edition. Inscribed by Henry Miller to Polish translator Zygmunt Łanowski, "a dear friend", 10/3/56. From the blurb: "Some writers have attempted to conceal the literary influences which helped to shape their thinking -- but not Henry Miller. In this unique work he has made an utterly candid and self-revealing journey back into memory, sharing with us the thrills of new discovery that a lifetime of wide reading has brought to a keen curious and questioning mind."
