About This Item

New York: Viking Press, 1946. First Edition. Signed presentation copy from author Garson Kanin to Harry Horner, the production designer of the 1950 movie version of Born Yesterday: “For Harry Horner, with a kiss from Garson, NYC 1950.” In a distinguished career, Harry Horner won two Academy Awards for Best Production Design for his work on The Heiress (1949) and The Hustler (1961). Additionally, he was the the production designer for such films as A Double Life, They Shoot Horses Don’t They?, Separate Tables, etc. The book was the basis of the delightful motion picture of the same name directed by George Cukor starring Judy Holliday, William Holden and Broderick Crawford, which was a success both commercially and artistically. In 2012, the film was added to Library of Congress' National Film Registry, a list of significant American films selected for preservation. This book has a little bit of faint rubbing to the cloth of the front board otherwise near fine. The very good dust jacket shows some fading to the right side of the front panel, a little soiling, and some shallow chipping to the top edge. An excellent association copy.
