For nearly 50 years, he was in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His power base went unchallenged. He used that power lustfully, often without a nod to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Conspiratorial contents page trying to get lost, held by tape. Hoover died in 1972. He'd been FBI Director since 1924.
