Boston: Privately Printed, 1903. Hardcover. Very Good-. One of 175 copies printed for private distribution. Boards in quarter black cloth with buff paper sides. Paper title block on spine very chipped. Interior is clean and unmarked. Seven illustrations on plates (including frontispiece), each with tissue guard. 47, [2] pages. 8.75 x 6.25 inches. A history of Boston Common through the colonial days up to the start of the Revolution in March 1776. Illustrated with original engravings, views and map of the Common, which were in the collection of the author's father, Dr. James Bourne Ayer. Mary Farwell Ayer (1878-1954) was an alumna of the Miss Winsor's School and the Baldwin School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Bryn Mawr College in 1901 and did graduate work at Radcliffe (1901-1902) and Simmons College (1905-1906). Contents: Introduction.
