About This Item

Toronto: MacMillan of Canada, 1970. Winnipeg during the era of the first World War: To James Gray there could be no better time and no better place to grow up. All around there were the best of the new and the old - automobiles, airplanes, radio, moving pictures, horses by the hundred, delivery wagons, sleighs, and open streetcars. Crowded with people from Ontario and the Maritimes, the United States and the four corners of Europe, Winnipeg was bursting at the seams.. James Gray writes of these things but most of all he writes of the delights of childhood. He has not only written a warm, joyful and sometimes poigant account of an age that has passed; he has also made a valuble contribution to Canadian social history. Black cloth boards with white title print to spine. No owner marking or inscription. Price-clipped illustrated jacket shows some edgewear and scuffing on rear panel but is still bright.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. Illus. by Myra Lowenthal.
