Grieb gu1392: 'Focusing on lifestyles, customs and culture'. Includes considerable comment on and description of Belize. By a Scots merchant and traveller (1799-1827). From the preface: 'The author is not without hope that it will prove both interesting and instructive. It is the plain, unvarnished outline of the life of one who's worth was manifested more by deeds then by words. His faith was fixed upon the rock of ages. It did not evaporate in wordy and lengthened confessions of self-abasement; nor did it seek to revel in the imaginary delights of self-righteousness. In this memoir there is something to amuse, and also something to inform the mind. The notes on Guatemala will be found valuable, inasmuch as we have been hitherto without much information in reference to that interesting country'. With a new introduction by James C.
