About This Item
London: Kirkwood & Son, Parliament Square and R. Ackermann, Strand, London, 1817. Book. Good. Hardcover. 8vo (approx. 14 x 21cm). Title continues: "Embellished with nearly fourteen hundred crests, Engraved by Robert Kirkwood, from original drawings by G. Sanders and J. Grant" Separate title pages to both volumes pp. xxxvi, 316, 114 plates. Full polished calf binding poor, front board missing, rear board detached, leather chipped with loss to head of spine. Contents good and tight, title page to vol. I. stained to inner margin, as are most pages of the preliminaries. Text good with some general reading wear. Plates good, some general dust soiling/reading wear with associated finger marks, especially to fore-edges, plates 53, 54 & 113 are contemporary hand-drawn facsimiles (or at least near -contemporary), plate 54 torn but complete, some water-staining/paper discoloration to the last fifteen plates or so, a little pencil annotation. This title would appear to be very scarce - only two copies are cited by COPAC. In need of restoration - ideally needs rebinding and a number of the pages and plates washed. The binders and paper restorers we use are excellent and we would be happy to arrange this restoration on your behalf should you wish..
