Mountaineer, botanist, photographer, member of the 3 Mount Everest expeditions of 1933, 1936 & 1938, Francis Sydney Smythe (1900 - 1949) relates history of, and personal experiences from, early days of the Alpine Club, which he joined in 1902. Illustrated archival illustrations w/8 color plates & 24 illustrations in b/w. 48 pgs in 5 chapters: I, The Pioneers; II, The Golden Age; III, The Fight for the Matterhorn; IV, The Growth of Mountaineering; V, The Himalayas: Mount Everest; and, VI, A Personal Adventure. Fine copy despite flaws.
