About This Item

New York: Random House, 2001. Softcover. Near Fine. Softcovers. 271 pp. Near fine, very slight evidence of use. The story of the famous (or infamous if you prefer) legal Nevada brothel Mustang Ranch and the women who populated it. The Mustang Ranch Brothel, precursor to the [present Mustang Ranch, was the state's first licenced brothel, opening in 1971. Its original owner, Joe Conforte, was later convicted of tax fraud and racketeering and forfeited the business to the federal government in 1999. The Feds actually auctioned it off on (it went for $145,00) and reopened as Mustang Ranch five miles from its original location. The women, aged 18 to 35, mostly lived at the ranch and worked 12 hour days; doctors came to the ranch to do exams and check for sexually transmitted diseases. Some employees were "hired out" to attend high-roller parties in Las Vegas and Reno.
