London: Michael Joseph, 1956. 1st Edition First Thus. Cloth Bound Boards. Fair/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 1956 first edition, first printing. Size octavo, 8.5" tall, 335 pages. Brown cloth covered boards with gilt vignette to the spine, top page edge dyed red, with the dust jacket. Book condition fair, corners and spine are faded in places, the spine where part of jacket is missing, covers grubby, corners bumped, hinges cracked, offsetting to end-papers, previous owner's inscription to the front paste-down, pages are toned otherwise clean. Dust jacket condition good, corners and edges nicked and chipped, tears with loss at hhead and tail of spine, 4x3 cm piece missing from bottom of jacket spine, spine faded, not price clipped. Masters' classic narrative of his service with 4th Gurkhas, Indian Army in the years preceding WWII.
