About This Item
Hardcover. Fair. Signed by Author(s). G.P. Putnam's Sons Covers heavily worn on corners and spine ends. Front endpaper has a hand-drawn caricature of Old Bill with underneath the author's inscription and signature: "'Ullo! from Old Bill and Bruce Bairnsfather." Under the signature (in a different hand it would appear) is the date Dec 3, 1932. At the top of the page is a handwritten note "See page XII." Taped to that page is a clipping from the Chicago Daily News dated October 10, 1941, noting the death of J. Merrigan, the inspiration for the Old Bill character. Book plate of the University Club of Chicago on front pastedown, with discard stamp. Contents are tight and generally clean with a little light soiling and sporadic foxing. The newspaper cutting has caused the expected offsetting on the preceding page. All illustrations are intact. Scans sent upon request of the covers and inscription.
