About This Item

Finely detailed naturalist lithographs collection. Vintage, complete set of six, in mint condition, hand-signed and numbered. "The Butterfly Series" by Carl Brenders (1973), The Exotic Group, Mill Pond Press, Florida (1993). Limited edition #42/290, with certificates of authenticity.

Internationally celebrated Belgian artist celebrates the diversity, beauty, wonder, and pollinating potential of Lepidoptera with his signature nature and wildlife realism. The works begin in pencil sketches and are developed via a mixed-media technique with watercolor and gouache.

The collection is printed on an offset lithographic press on museum-quality, acid-free, pH-neutral, coated paper, and the films were destroyed. Each is signed in-plate and hand-signed and numbered by the artist.

Paper size: 13-1/4" x 11"

Image size: 10" x 7-3/4"

The series is no longer available from the publisher, and these images do not exist in previous states or other editions.

The Exotic Group (1980) consists of:

-Kaiser-I-Hind Butterfly (Teinopalpus imperialis)

-Great Orange Tip (Hebomia glaucippe)

-Owl Moth (Brahmaea wallichii)

-Atlas Moth (Attacus atlas)

-Ulysses Butterfly (Papilio Ulysses)

-Pratts' Birdwing (Troides prattorum)

Each lithograph is contained in its publisher's red paper sleeve with a gold foil seal. Additionally, each presents with a protective water-marked cover and a species information card with text by Jaqueline Miller, Ph. D. (Allyn Museum of Entomology, Florida Museum of Natural History Museum, Former President of the Lepidopterists' Society). The collection is presented in the red publisher's box embellished with gilt lettering.

Price at issue: $375. Current market price: $450.

Complete and in its original state. There is light shelf wear to the publisher's box and minor wear to the sleeves, commensurate with age. The prints remain pristine. Ready to frame.
