About This Item

[Ocala, Florida. Ca. 1890-1895]. Albumen photograph, on larger and original convex mount, all-edges gilt. Corner stress fracture and light signs of age; very good.

A rich image showing a late 19th-century waterfront scene on the Indian River with palm trees, a wooden pier and small moored boats. Under loupe magnification, one sees residential and industrial buildings across the river, and other signs of urban development.

The Indian River in Ocala, Florida is located in Marion County and is well known for its scenic beauty. It is a popular destination for boaters, anglers, and bird watchers.
