Inscribed by the author. Second edition. this revised edition is a complete record of the diplomatic background and history of the development of the Panama Canal. Prefaced by a brief historical background of agitation for the Canal from the days of Columbus, DuVal presents without bias the essential features of the long struggle for an isthmian water way. He gives credit to each of the nations and leaders who was involved in the effort and gives a comprehensive account of the crescendo of stirring events which led to the grant of the Canal Zone to the United States. this story, which is based upon personal letters and official documents, is a fascinating story. Condition: Corners bumped, spine ends and hinges sunned some staining to covers. Jacket corners chipped, spine ends rubbed else good in a very good jacket
