San Francisco:: Pettingell Book Bindery / Art Hazelwood,, 2010.. Edition of 10. 16 x 18"; 72 pages. Sixty woodcuts printed by the artist on Masa paper in editions varying in size from 25 to 50 of which numbers 11 - 20 were bound by the artist in a hand-sewn hardcover book format. Prints tipped onto Arches cover text paper. Each print numbered, titled, and signed. Art Hazelwood: "From 1986 to 1993 I traveled around the world, living in Europe and Asia and in various parts of the States. My primary interest however was traveling in Asia. The intensity of travel lured me on to see more and more. Experiences of people and places left their mark and I have tried to give back some of that feeling. The Tibetan nomads, Vietnamese 'cyclo' drivers, Japanese 'salary man,' Sikhs, Thais, and Uygurs that make up this series are the actors on an impossibly crowded world stage. It is this sometimes overwhelming encounter with the world that these prints seek to express. "Prints…

Description:
This collection of original material of Jerome Myers includes two photographs of Jerome Myers, taken by Leo Grubman, one taken in 1910 [when they shared an art gallery and studio] and signed by Leo Grubman, the other taken by Grubman circa 1932. There is a photograph of his wife Ethel (photographer not identified). After his success at the Armory Show in 1911 with the sale of his painting "The Mission Tent" he was able to move into a new studio at the new Carnegie Hall building. There are two warmly personal letters with biographical items of interest plus some artistic representation. The first letter is to his friend Leo Grubman, dated January 21, 1914, and discusses with pride his daughter Virginia's dance recital and his busy schedule. There is a second letter (lacking the first page) of one page signed "Jerome" and circa 1915 of his move to Carmel, New York where he bought 18 acres in a very rustic setting (where he has made a few nice ink sketches along the margins of the letter). A small corner…

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
