About This Item

1588 1st ed Pliny the Younger Epistles Panegyricus Vesuvius ROME Early Church
Pliny the Younger, one of the most notable 1st-century historians, is best remembered for his written works and orations. His best-known, and still widely popular work is his 'Epistles', which was a series of personal letters to other Roman figures. They give an important view of Roman everyday life as well as an interesting perspective on Pliny's views against Christianity.
However, the most important epistles concern Pliny's account of the Mount Vesuvius eruption. Tacitus, a friend of Pliny, wanted to know more about the death of his uncle, Pliny the Elder, and the eruption itself.
This 1588 first edition was published by Jean Richer and includes a dedicatory epistle from Claude Mignault
