The text is illustrated with 16 pages of black and white photographs/illustrations between page 178 and 179. Photographic card cover with white coloured titles to the front panel and white and gold coloured titles to the backstrip. Cairo between the years of 1939 to 1945, meant many things to different people; for the troops it meant fleshpots or brass hats; for well-connected officers it was rounds of Polo and opulent parties; for refugees,a stopping place on the way home. In this book the author brings together this diseperate threads and brings it into a cohesive whole, while also placing the political and military dramas in their proper place. Minor creasing to the book corners and there is a reading crease to the backstrip. Age toning to the textblock edges and to the internal pages. First softcover edition.
