About This Item

Torun, Poland: TUMULT Foundation. Fine in Near Fine dj. 2014. First Edition. Hardcover. [no discernible wear to book, but SEE NOTE about slightly "clingy" pages; jacket has a couple of tiny scuff marks on front panel]. (B&W and color photographs) Nicely-produced album/anthology devoted to the life and work of the great American cinematographer, "published in a series on Lifetime Achievement Award Laureates," as selected annually by the staff of the Camerimage Festival; Deschanel was the 21st recipient of this honor. Includes: a brief biography and filmography; an introduction by Deschanel; a rundown of his work in student films, shorts, and documentaries; the cinematographer's illustrated commentaries on a dozen and a half of his feature films (ranging from bona fide classics such as BEING THERE, THE BLACK STALLION and THE RIGHT STUFF, to outright turkeys -- albeit great-looking ones! -- like ASK THE DUST) and his work in commercials; a chronicle of his numerous awards; a family album; and a gallery of some of his still photography images. [NOTE: There is something peculiar about the surfaces of the pages of this book (which was printed in Poland, for whatever that's worth) that causes them to somewhat stick together. In the process of cataloging the book, I peeled each page apart from its neighbor, with no discernible damage, but I can't guarantee that over time they won't re-adhere to one another.] **** ALSO NOTE that additional shipping charges will be requested for international shipping of this heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order. **** .
