About This Item

[Oklahoma City]: Works Progress Administration in the State of Oklahoma, 1938. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good. First edition. Stapled orange pictorial wraps with clear spiderweb tissue guards. Illustrated. Very Good condition overall. Small chip to upper corner of front cover and another on back cover that effects the tissue-guard. Cover worn at bottom staple. In much better shape than usually found as wraps are quite brittle.

Before any of his well-known hard-boiled suspense novels, Thompson wrote and edited this guidebook for the Federal Writers' Project of Oklahoma. He was a Communist Party member at the time and his writing here, stylistically, is far removed from his comparatively-apolitical, suspenseful pulp novels of the pulp era.
