Sacramento, Cal.: California State Department of Horticulture. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1911. First Edition. Hardcover. Directed to fruit growers. Includes summary of quarantine laws enacted in California, lists State Quarantine Guardians by county, includes general remarks on quarantine laws, describes current effect of each law. Red cloth, gilt lettering to front, embossed California seal to back cover, index at rear.; 6" x 9"; 24 pp; Restricting the movement of people and goods has a long history. The term "quarantine" is from the Venetian language beginning in the 14th century, and refers to a period of forty days. (Wiki) The California laws discussed here relate solely to the restrictions on the movement of agricultural goods in an effort to control the spread of various pests. The first laws relating to horticulture date from 1899 and 1903. A 1911 act provided for Quarantine Guardians and provided funding for their efforts and this book. Uncommon original issue, OCLC lists only three institutional holdings, all in Northern California.; Cover lettering rubbed on right side, endpapers have caused mild toning to adjacent pages. .
