Story of an adventurous journey that began in 1846 in St.Louis through the Black Hills & Rockies the summer after the author graduated from Harvard. As he writes in the Introduction, he set off "to study the manners & character of Indians in their primitive state."detailing "their wild and picturesque life." Originally published in the 1850s, this is a slightly later reprint from Hurst & Company as part of their popular "Companion Books" series, in 299 pages, bound in brown faux leather with gilt lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG+ completely clean, sewn binding strong & straight, pages supple & white, with age-appropriate tanning to all edges. Former owner's name inside front cover in pen.
