[California Centennial Edition No.4, limited to 1500 copies], inscribed and signed by Sullivan [11x7.75in]; [2], v, [1] [Salute to General Douglas MacArthur, Sixth and Eight Armies and First Cavalry Division], 161 pp., [1], four color illustrations, tipped in errata slip; Cream cloth binding with red and black lettering on front and illustration of pioneer family; Cream dust jacket with red and black lettering on front and illustration of pioneer family, red lined lettering on spine; Minimal shelf wear on corners with bumps along bottom edges, tipped in prior owner bookplate; Some soiling, offset darkening of dust jacket with darken spine, minor shelf wear on all edges. Quinn Thornton emigrated to the Oregon Territory with his family in 1846. He was appointed a Judge by the provision government of Oregon in 1847 and was the representative of the territory in Washington DC. During his travels, he met survivors of the Donner party in San Francisco and wrote about their tragic journey ending in 1847. The is a reprint of the account published in New York from Volume II, Harper's 1855 Edition. The account is based on interviews with William Eddy and is gripping reading.
