The author has signed and numbered this edition. Signed "Henry Roth" and numbered as 88 out of 300 copies. Illustrated with 48 photographs set in New York City during the time period of the story. The cloth boards depict a brick building with large four pane windows, matching the design of the slipcase.

There were an additional 26 lettered publication copies.

Slip case shows the faintest hints of smudging, small bump to back end corner, small wrinkle to top of spine. Spine of slipcase mimics a building facade with the title encased in a business/apartment marquee.

Referred to as "allusive printing" as their book making choices are related to themes or aspects of the book's content/story. Book designed by Andrew Hoyem. Text type is Bulmer, paper is German mouldmade Zerkall for exquisite quality. Photographs printed in duotone offset lithography by Phelps-Schaefer. This is the 45th title published by Arion Press.

Synopsis

Call It Sleep is a 1934 novel by Henry Roth. Time magazine described it as "The story of three years in the life of a sensitive Jewish slum-child, told with painstaking and pain-giving fidelity," in the February 25, 1935 edition. While the book sold poorly upon its initial publication, the book received a second life when it was reviewed by literary critic Irving Howe on the front page of The New York Times Book Review on October 25, 1964, and has since sold over a million copies.
