About This Item

Moffett Field, CA: NASA ASRS, 1990. 1st. Hardcover. This archive from the estate of Rex Hardy includes the first 100 monthly safety bulletins Hardy edited beginning July, 1979 & ending October, 1987; 51 typed and handwritten letters & cards in recognition of Hardy's retirement as editor; and the first edition of Hardy's book "Callback: Nasa's Aviation Safety Reporting System." The Bulletins and letters are housed in a custom folding cloth case with ties. Fine condition. Rex Hardy (1916 - 2004) was one of the elite group of photographers hired by Life magazine in 1936 for its first year of publication. Much of his work involved taking pictures of Hollywood stars including James Stewart, Robert Taylor, Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford and Clark Gable. Three of Hardy's pictures made the cover of Life: the dancing duo of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, journalist bon vivant Lucius Beebe, and comedian Harpo Marx.

Hardy was a life-long pilot and served during World War II as a B-24 commander in the South Pacific. Following the war, he worked in aviation for Northrop, Lockheed, and finally the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. It was during this period that Hardy created the "Callback" bulletin which continues to enlighten and entertain a large reading audience to this day. Next day shipping.
