All'Insegna del Pesce d'Oro is a historic editorial series founded in 1936, in Milan, by Giovanni Scheiwiller. The series takes its name from a famous Milanese trattoria where Scheiwiller used to hang out with his friends, writers and artists. Scheiwiller had worked with the great Swiss publisher, Ulrico Hoepli, before going off on his own to establish an independent publishing company Books published under the the Pesce d'Oro brand are small format publications inspired by the vest-pocket series of art books published in Paris by Gallimard. By the time this volume was published, the business had been assumed by Scheiwiller's young son, Vanni, yet this volume is signed by the founding father, Giovanni.

About Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio

Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio owes its name and its inspiration to the traditional Italian studio bibliografico. These small antiquarian bookshops, typically run by individuals who combine deep scholarship with a love of the printed object, remind us that underlying the words "study" and "studio" is the Latin term for zeal and devotion, studium. Since 1993, my goal has been to match discerning collectors with extraordinary books and manuscripts.
